Silver knotwork and birds silver brooch by Iain MacCormick. Length approx 2". 1950s period.

One of the finest Iain MacCormick brooches I have seen. Foliate design is taken from MacKinnon's cross shaft on Iona. Date late 1940s. Reverse is stamped IMC IONA Sterling. Cobalt blue enamel. Probably a continued Alexander Ritchie brooch, but as yet I have't seen one by AR. The foliate patterning can be seen on several of AR's early brass salvers.

Early Iain MacCormick silver and turquoise enamel brooch with an unusual continued Alexander Ritchie shape taken from Pictish (not Celtic) ancient symbols found in north eastern Scotland.. Reverse marks of IMC IONA SILVER and CAI. (Celtic Art Industries). Date c.1950.

One of Alexander Ritchie's favourite pieces, and believed to have been designed by Euphemia Ritchie, as the original ones have A E R on the reverse. This is a continued example by Iain MacCormick, from Ritchie's original mould. Th reverse omits the A E R and has IMC IONA STERLING stamped on it. Dates from the late 1940s/early 50s. Very beautiful!

Here is a lovely little window into the apprenticeship days of Iain MacCormick with Alexander Ritchie on Iona. The pewter quaich is perhaps late 19th century, and has been used by Iain MacCormick to test out his skills with Celtic designs, using a sharp 'scriber' of some sort. The piece is signed on the base, and the design would have been done when MacCormick was learning his trade as a youth. I have never seen another one like it.
